2014 Holiday Message

December 25, 2014

Tenth District Brothers,

On behalf of the Tenth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa and have a Happy New Year!

On this day, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Let us take time to reflect on the meaning of the day and thank God for giving us His only son, Jesus Christ.

I encourage you to remember the seven principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self Determination), Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics, Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity) and Imani (Faith).

Let us be unified as a people (Umoja). Let us determine how we are defined, viewed and judged (Kujichagulia). Let us keep in mind we are our brothers keepers; your joys are my joys, your problems are my problems – we will solve them together (Ujima). Let us support our own businesses (Ujamaa). Let us exist and act with a purpose as we strive to rise to greatness (Nia). Let us use our creativity to uplift and beautify our communities (Kuumba). Let us always believe in our people, our leaders, instructors and our elders (Imani).

Kwanzaa is a seven day observation but will improve the lives of Black people if we incorporate the principles into our daily lives.

As we celebrate the new year, be festive but responsible in all that we do and say. We want you home safely and prepared to have a prosperous new year.

In Friendship, Your District Representative,

Brother Hon. Steven G. Watkins 35th Tenth District Representative
